1.Travel to Kirigalpotta Summit

Horton Plains is bounded by the country’s second and third highest mountain peaks of Sri Lanka: Mount Kirigalpotta Kanda (2389 m) and Mount Thotupola Kanda (2357 m). The escarpment with a depth of 900 meters called World’s End and Baker’s Falls is one of the highlights of the Horton Plains.

2.Alagalla Mountain Range and Bible Rock

Alagalla Mountain Range, also known as “Potato Mountain Range” and translates to “Tuber Rock” in English, is situated at the border of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. It is situated in Mawanella. The mountain has been used as a defense location against the Portuguese, Dutch, and English who tried to surrender Kandy. The mountain doesn’t attract much of a crowd although it is great for hiking.

3.Ella Rock

Ella Rock is a popular mountain for hiking and is situated on Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela Highway in Ella. Hiking the Ella Rock offers stunning views from the peak of the mountain and is also the ideal place to watch the sunrise in Ella. The hike starts with walking on train tracks for around 20 to 30 minutes and then takes you up into a beautiful forest for about an hour before you reach the top at Ella Rock for some magnificent views.

4.Hnthana Mountain Range

Hanthana Mountain Range is located southwest of the Kandy city, adjacent to the University of Peradeniya. It consists of seven peaks out of which the highest is “Ura Kanda”. It is a popular location for bird watching, hiking, and camping. The mountains have served as the location for movies and music videos. The peaks of the mountain offer amazing views of Kandy city, Knuckles mountain range, the hills of Sabaragamuwa, and the Dolosbage range of Aranayake.

5.Little Adam’s Peak

Little Adam’s Peak is a mountain situated on Passara Road in Ella. It is a very popular mountain for hiking among locals and foreigners. The mountain gets its name because of the similar shape to the holy mountain, Adam’s Peak. Little Adam’s Peak is 1141 meters high and is an easy climb with a clear pathway. The hike could take up to 2 to 3 hours to complete. Hiking Little Adam’s Peak is also a great way to experience the beautiful landscapes of Ella as it gives stunning views of the surrounding area.
